Abstract

AbstractThe optimization of singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) synthesis via chemical vapour deposition (CVD) with the use of ethanol vapor as the carbon source is presented. Alcohol CVD process for SWCNT synthesis was performed with regards to the diameter distribution and quality of the sample. In particular the influence of the concentration of the catalyst support (here MgO) was investigated. The manipulation of this process parameter led to the synthesis of bulk quantity and high purity SWCNT. We have found that an increase in the MgO concentration with respect to the catalyst showed limited dependence on the diameter distribution but did show a significant influence on the sample quality for the optimum conditions.
