Abstract
Two main features of the Southern Atlantic Central Water allow its extention to be followed in the northern hemisphere: a salinity minimum located on σt = 26.8 and an oxygen minimum. The salinity minimum has been associated with the coastal upwelling undercurrent of the northwestern coast of Africa but it is not an exclusive feature of this undercurrent south of Cap Blanc. The lowest values of the oxygen minimum are observed in summer in the centre of the Guinea Dome.
