Abstract

Regarding an accurate determination of the specific absorption rate (SAR) inside the human head caused by mobile telephones, a suitably shaped head model must be used to check cellular phones with regard to the safety-limits. The decisive quantity in the European standards is the maximum SAR value averaged on a cube of 10 g of human tissue (SAR/sub 10 g, max/). The phantom simulating the human head is an essential part of the measurement system. Therefore, we have investigated the influence of the shape of the phantom on the maximum averaged SAR value by means of numerical calculations.
