Abstract
The strain energy of arbitrarily shaped inclusions embedded in an elastic matrix was determined. The inclusions consist of crystallites surrounded by a viscous glassy phase which can support only a homogeneous hydrostatic pressure. It was shown that in a cylindrical inclusion with triangular cross section the crystallization of a glassy phase subjected to elastic constraints is favored as compared with inclusions of a circular cross section.
