Abstract

Formulas are obtained for the spatial distribution of the refractive index in gaseous active media excited by a glow discharge. These formulas are based on the results of several experimental investigations. Resonance relationships for a linear laser with internal mirrors are derived in the paraxial approximation using the formalism of the ray (line) transmission matrix. Conditions are obtained for the minimum influence of the optical inhomogeneity of the active medium on the emission frequency. (AIP)
