Abstract

AbstractThe variation of Curie temperature with number of conduction electrons in compounds GdAg1 − x, Inx, GdAg1 − x Znx, and GdZn1 − x, Inx is interpreted in terms of the RKKY model. Especially, the influence of a nonconstant exchange integral with a cutoff wavenumber is discussed. The Curie temperatures of compounds with a constant number of conduction electrons were determined for GdCd1 − x Znx and GdAg0.5(1 − x)In0.5(1 − x)Znx. It is shown, that the mean free path of the conduction electrons modifies the strength of the indirect exchange interaction, which can explain, that different Curie temperatures are obtained in compounds with equal number of conduction electrons. The variation of the Pauli susceptibility was estimated from determinations of the magnetic susceptibility of the compounds YAg1 − x Inx YAg1 − xZnx, and LaAg0.5(1 − x)In0.5(1 − xZnx.
