Abstract
The two-photon ionisation cross section of Cs atoms in the (20 500-21 300 cm-1) photon energy range has been measured with both circularly and linearly polarised laser light. Theoretical predictions based on the model potential method are found to be in much better agreement with the authors' results than those using the quantum defect method.
