Abstract
The influence of impact location on internal scarf repaired composite is determined through numerical analysis. For this purpose, the finite element model (FEM) of the composite repair was developed and four special impact locations were chosen on the scarf repaired laminates to subject the impact load. Low velocity impact simulation was carried out on the repaired samples with various impact energies (15 J, 20 J and 25 J), and damage analysis was examined based on impact parameters (peak contact force, impact time interval, and energy absorption). Hashin failure criteria damage model was adopted for the computational analysis to visualize the fiber and matrix damages. Results of the simulation shows that when impact location was exterior to the repaired region, it displayed the least damage, conversely when the impact location was at the bond edge, greater damage was observed. Afterwards, a correlation was established among impact parameters and the impact energy that was subjected to the laminates.
