Abstract

The high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) method was successfully applied to synthesize polycrystalline NixCo4−xSb12 compounds. The synthesis time was decreased significantly to only twenty minutes. The high pressure effects on microstructures were carefully investigated, including grain refinement, grain boundaries, and lattice deformations. Moreover, the variations of electrical transport properties for the NixCo4-xSb12 samples with synthesis pressure were particularly researched at room temperature. The results reveal that higher pressure can yield a larger Seebeck coefficient and Ni doping can distinctly decrease electrical resistivity. A ZT of 0.52 was obtained at 600 K for Ni0.15Co3.85Sb12 sample at 1 GPa.
