Abstract
We study welded joints (WJ) of plates 6???8 mm in thickness obtained by the electric-arc and laser methods with various values of the energy of welding ??. The strains and stresses in the stretched plates with welds are computed numerically by using the ABAQUS program. The characteristics of materials in the modeled WJ are obtained according to the results of testing minispecimens cut out from the appropriate zones. The distributions of strains on the surfaces of the specimens are computed numerically and compared with the distributions obtained with the help of the ARAMIS video system. By analyzing the stresses and strains in the internal layers of welded plates, we determine the zones dangerous from the viewpoint of possible development of damage. It is discovered that the strength of WJ strongly depends on the values of ?? and is close to the strength of the base material for low ??.
