Abstract

By using a single-hole nozzle and by changing the hole diameters to 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, and 0.7mm, the injection rates and the atomizing properties of emulsified fuel were clarified, and the investigation on the engine performance was carried out in comparison with the throttle nozzle. As a result, it was found that when emulsified fuel was used, the specific fuel consumption was affected largely by the injection rate rather than the atomizing properties of fuel. That is, when the initial injection rate was too large (nozzle hole diameter is large) or too small (nozzle hole diameter is small), the improvement of specific fuel consumption as compared with gas oil was unobtainable. The cause was mainly due to the increase of cooling loss. Accordingly, for an engine to be used we must consider the optimum injection rate and nozzle diameter, and in the present experiment, the nozzle diameter of 0.6mm was the best.
