Abstract
Using upstream chambers and capillary tubes of various diameters D 0 and D respectively, it is shown that the excess pressure drop Δ P e, associated with the elastic properties of polymer solutions, varies with the contraction ratio D 0/ D. This variation is such that Δ P e first increases and then decreases as D 0/ D increases. The analysis of previous and present results indicates that the polymer solution's flow configuration in the upstream chamber is responsible for the observed dependency.
