Abstract

The effect of external cathodic polarization on the behaviour of organic inhibitors for Al alloys in HCl has been studied. It was observed that several inhibitors become more effective under the influence of external cathodic polarization, as for instance 2-butanone for Al-2S and Al-65S and cyclohexanone for Al-57S. The protective potential for Al alloys is not altered in the presence of most of the inhibitors studied, only in the case of ethylenediamine is the protective potential lowered.
