Abstract

The dependence of the degree of enhancement of the relative intensity of spectral lines of In, Tl, V, Fe, Co, Cu, Be, Zn and Hg on the concentration of potassium salt additives was studied. This relationship usually displays a maximum, the magnitude of which depends on the nature of the element and, to a lesser extent, on the anion of the additive. For a given element the position of maximum enhancement is determined by the anion of the additive. The enhancement is greatest for elements with ionization potentials close to 6.5 V while suppression of line intensities occurs with elements with ionization potentials greater than 8.5 V. For all the elements studied the enhancement was greatest when using potassium halides as additives.
