Abstract

The work considers the influence of the angular distribution of cathode ions on parameters of the vacuum arc. It is shown that mutual collisions of the fast ions flowing from different cathode spots at a current density typical for a high current arc can result in a high ion temperature value at the cathode plasma boundary. The limit for a current density at a stable current flow region versus the width of the angular distribution of the cathode ions is determined The formula for a maximal possible value of the ion-sound velocity is obtained.
