Abstract
The influence of the alcohol and surfactant structure on the extent of the monophasic domain of pseudoternary phase diagrams of water/oil/cosurfactant/surfactant has been investigated. It is shown that surfactants with about 12–16 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain and small head group size are the most suitable for the formation of microemulsions. It is also shown that the combination of 1-butanol with toluene and 1-pentanol with dodecane gives the largest extent of the monophasic domain.
