Abstract

1. 1. Measurements of oxygen consumption were made at 15°C on frogs acclimated in the dark at temperatures of 5, 15 and 25°C. 2. 2. Acclimation is essentially completed within 4 days and follows a pattern of inverse compensation. Significant differences between the sexes were found only in May. 3. 3. Time-related fluctuations in metabolic rates were observed, with a peak centering on 13.30 hr. 4. 4. A clear-cut increase in metabolic rate occured between early April and May, and marked changes in the metabolism-weight relationship were observed from season to season.
