Abstract

The ultrasonic velocity, absorption, density and viscosity measurements were used to study the interaction of PEG, PVP and PVA with anionic surfactant — sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) in aqueous solutions of different concentrations and temperatures, namely, 303, 313 and 323 K. The properties of SDBS with increasing polymer concentration (0.2–1.2%) were investigated. Interaction of SDBS with polymer was found to involve the binding of surfactant with the polymer molecule followed by the usual micellization; from the observed values the related acoustical parameters are calculated and their variation are discussed. The FT-IR spectrum was also used to characterize these samples.
