Abstract

The influence of some nonionic, cationic and anionic surfactants on the fluorescence and absorption behaviour of Auramine-O dye has shown that the anionic surfactants exert maximum influence on fluorescence and absorption spectra of the dye. The effects of various surfactants have been explained on the hypothesis of dye-surfactant interaction and a subsequent disaggregation process. A red shift in fluorescence and absorption maxima indicated the possibility of dye-surfactant interaction although the nature of the spectra remained unaltered.
