Abstract

We mainly study the influence of surface charge on the movement and distribution characteristics of metal particle dust (MPD) in DC GIS/GIL. Based on the improved boundary element algorithm, we establish the movement model of MPD. Combined with experiments, we obtained the distribution characteristics of MPD. The research results show that under negative voltage, the metal particle contamination is more serious at convex side of the spacer. Homopolar surface charge enhances the adhesion of MPD near the spacer, but it also enhances the repulsion between spacer and MPD in chamber. Heteropolar surface charge weakens the adhesion of MPD near the spacer, but it also weakens the repulsion between spacer and MPD in chamber. Therefore, we suggest that surface regulation should be adopted to make the spacer surface accumulate homopolar surface charge. Meanwhile particle traps should be installed near the spacer and in middle of the chamber to achieve more comprehensive metal particle suppression.
