Abstract
Sixteen naturally occurring carbohydrates were evaluated as feeding stimulants in agar/cellulose media for adult female Japanese beetles, Popillia japonica Newman. Four sugars—sucrose, maltose, fructose, and glucose—were strong phagostimulants. Three other sugars—arabinose, xylose, and raffinose—induced weak, but significant, feeding responses.
