Abstract

The saturation points of silicon dioxide particles in 13 ionic liquids (ILs) were measured to determine how the saturation point depends on the ionic liquid’s structure. The saturation point correlates well with pure IL properties such as melting point temperature, viscosity, molar volume, and free volume. Scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering are used to investigate the shape, size and arrangement of silica particles in several ionic liquids.
