Abstract
Six patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis were studied immediately before and after treatment with corticosteroids for 1 mo. Symptomatic relief of respiratory distress and clearing of pulmonary infiltration occurred. However, the impaired reactivity of peripheral blood lymphocytes in response to PPD and con A remained unchanged as well as the markedly decreased total number of circulating T cells. The data may help to explain the usually only suppressive effect of corticosteroids in sarcoidosis.
