Abstract

Objective To investigate the influence of specialty commitment on clinical practice performance of undergraduate nursing students .Methods A total of 407 undergraduate nursing students were recruited by convenience sampling method and investigated with Specialty Commitment Scale before they entered the hospital , and then investigated with Clinical Performance Self-rating Scale ten months later .Results The total score of specialty commitment of nursing students was (88.58 ±12.55), with an average score of (3.28 ±0.46). The total score of clinical practice performance of nursing students was (156.27 ±17.06), with an average score of (3.63 ±0.39).The differences were found in clinical practice performance of nursing students among different college level and different gender (F=5.379,t=5.824;P〈0.05), but no difference was found among different hospital level (F=1.547,P 〉0.05).The college level and specialty commitment of undergraduate nursing students’ to clinical practice performance ’s coefficient of determination was 0.326.The specialty commitment to clinical practice performance’s coefficient of determination was 0.280.Conclusions Undergraduate nursing students’ clinical practice performance can be predicted by the level of specialty commitment .Further follow-up studies are needed for the influence of long-term work.
