Abstract
Dynamic response of open-ended pipe pile is complicated by soil-plugging effect. By a series of model tests, this focuses on soil-squeezing effect and characteristics of ground-borne vibration due to pile driving. During experimentally testing, both open-ended piles (control piles) and pipe piles with different fixed soil plug lengths and were driven into soil mass. During pile driving, both earth pressure and vibration acceleration at different pile penetration depths and radial distance from model piles were measured by earth pressure cells and accelerometers. Based on analyzing the instrumentation data, the dynamic responses of driven pipe piles were characterized and the effect of soil plugging on pile dynamic response was investigated. The relevant results will contribute some to the current knowledge of piling driving.
