Abstract

VARIOUS widely differing diseased states with two features in common, melanuria and decreased blood sodium chloride, have been reported1. The inhibiting effect of ascorbic acid on the formation of melanin from tyrosine, 3: 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine and adrenaline is well known2–5. It is also known that the oxidation of ascorbic acid is inhibited by sodium chloride6.
