Abstract

An effect was found for the size of monodisperse platinum nanoparticles supported on γ-Al2O3 on their catalytic properties in the Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. The rate of formation of the products of the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide increases with increasing diameter of the supported platinum nanoparticles from 2.7 to 8.4 nm. Such behavior may be attributed to a decrease in the heat of adsorption of CO with increasing size of the platinum nanoparticles.
