Abstract
The free torsional vibration characteristics of single lap-jointed cantilevered SPR beams are investigated theoretically in this paper using the three dimensional finite element method (FEM). Numerical examples are provided to show the influence on the natural frequencies and natural frequency ratios of these beams caused by variations in the material properties of the sheet materials. It is shown that the torsional natural frequencies of single lap jointed cantilevered SPR beams increases significantly as the Young’s modulus of the sheet materials increases, but only slight changes are encountered for variations of Poisson’s ratio. It is also found that the material densities of the sheets have significant effects on the free torsional vibration characteristics of the beams.
