Abstract
The most important parameters influencing trace metal distribution in sediments are reviewed. The accent is put on sedimentation rate, grain size distribution and the knowledge of past events through sedimentological and mineralogical parameters. It is concluded that chemical data must be compared to sedimentological data before being interpreted.
