Abstract

Temperature effects on the root crown section, where most of the plant fluid translocation streams through a narrow space, were investigated. Cooled root crown section of tomato seedlings during daytime increased root weight; high temperatures enhanced shoot development. High and low temperatures day and night, on root crown, reduced root and shoot development. Wilting effects of shoots due to high temperature root environment, were delayed greatly by cooled root crown.
