Abstract

The scattering properties of ice particles is investigated such as extinction cross section, scattering cross section and absorption cross section, and the characteristics of the variation with the refractive index of the particles were analyzed. The temperature and frequency which affect the ice refractive index with implications in remote sensing has also been investigated. The properties are computed by the T-matrix method. The results show that with the increase of the frequency, the extinction cross section and the scattering cross section increase gradually, but when the frequency increases to about 205GHz, it will begin to decrease slowly with fixed size particles. The refractive index has a different effect on the extinction cross section, scattering cross section and absorption cross section. The real part mainly affects the extinction cross section and scattering cross section, while the imaginary part mainly affects the extinction cross section and absorption cross section.
