Abstract

The authors studied the conduction of metal contacts at ambient temperature in normal conditions, while driving piezomechanically molybdenum conductors and controlling conduction between them. Inspite of noise, the authors managed to observe a step-wise rise of contact resistance. The obtained conduction histograms show a peak corresponding to one quantum of conduction. The experimental results prove the possibility of the quantum ballistic character of charge transport in molybdenum nanocontacts.
