Abstract

We have analyzed the fusion excitation functions of various fusion reactions involving 9Be as projectile in the near barrier energy region using proximity potential and quantum diffusion approach. In particular, the role of breakup is investigated in these fusion reactions. For Be9+124Sn, 169Tm, 181Ta, 187Re projectile–target combinations an overall suppression in fusion cross section is observed while for Be9+144Sm, 186W, 208Pb, 209Bi systems overall enhancement is found in near barrier energy region. The agreement between data and predictions is found to be improved significantly when breakup effects are properly accounted for.
