Abstract

A comprehensive visualization experiment platform for slush hydrogen preparation based on the freeze-thaw method was established, which integrates the functions of hydrogen liquefaction, cryogenic fluid transfer, slush hydrogen preparation, and visual observation. Slush hydrogen was successfully produced and could be observed clearly through the observation window on the constructed experimental platform. Numerous experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of the opening degree of the vacuum pump valve, the freezing time, and the thawing time on the production process of slush hydrogen. Better quality slush hydrogen can be obtained by appropriately increasing the vacuum pump valve's opening degree during the freezing process. Meanwhile, it is found that this experimental equipment could produce slush hydrogen of higher quality by combining 2 min of freezing time and 2 min of thawing time. The successful development of the slush hydrogen preparation experimental platform can provide technical support and reference for preparing and applying slush hydrogen efficiently, thereby promoting the application of slush hydrogen as a propellant fuel.
