Abstract

The paper deals with an urgent task of enhancing the collection efficiency of fine solid particles from gas in industrial enterprises. For capturing the fine particles with size from 1 to 10 μm from the gas flows, a rectangular separator was developed. The separator utilized as a second cleaning stage in series with the coarse cleaning apparatus can prevent entrainment of material into the atmosphere. We aimed to study the effect of various process parameters (gas velocity, particle properties) on the device efficiency in capturing particulate matter. Three types of elements (double-T-, arc- and Π-shaped) of 14 mm length have been investigated. Three operation regimes of the separator are specified depending on the gas flow velocity. It was determined that the efficiency of the device was more than 99% when the gas velocity did not exceed 10 m/s at particle density of 1000 kg/m3. When the gas velocity was more than 15 m/s, the hydraulic resistance of the separator increased by 36% on average.
