Abstract
The ever‐increasing number of potent new drugs with multiple actions and the rapidity with which they come into widespread use pose new problems in therapeutics. One of primary concern is the influence of drug therapy on other therapeutic measures. This review is concerned with those agents which have been found to influence anesthesia, including pituitary‐adrenal agents, insulin, tranquilizers and other central nervous system depressants, cardiovascular agents, and antibiotics. The actions of these drugs which may affect anesthesia and methods of dealing with them are discussed. It is concluded that the therapeutic status of all surgical patients should be known to their anesthetists if they are to undergo anesthesia and surgical operation under optimal conditions.
