Abstract

Purpose: Several different 192Ir photon energy spectra have been used for both Monte Carlo (MC) simulations of dose deposition and for MC and measured media-energy corrections. However, the dosimetric influence of spectrum choice was not known, and recommendations for the field of medical physics to use a particular 192Ir spectrum are outdated. Furthermore, dosimetric differences between the 125I photon spectrum recommended in the 2004 AAPM TG-43U1 report and that recommended by the National Nuclear Data Center (NNDC) are unknown.
