Abstract

CuO and Pd:CuO thin films have been deposited by the sol–gel and spin coating technique. The films thickness was controlled by the number of successive layers on the substrates. Subsequently, the physical properties of the films were studied as a function of their thickness. XRD spectra have shown that films consisting of four layers revealed the best crystallinity. Optical transmission as well as energy gap values decreased with thickness, while the resistivity was increasing. Palladium at five different concentrations was introduced into 4-layered (228 nm). Raman measurements of all doped films confirmed the structure of CuO. AFM studies revealed the pyramidal nano-textured surface as the Pd concentration changed. A clear correlation between the broadening of the optical band gap with increasing Pd doping concentration was observed. The electrical resistivity varied from 1.2 to 1.6 × 102 Ω cm.
