Abstract

1. 1. Ray skin dermatan sulphate contained ca 65% monosulphated and 30% disulphated disaccharide units, whereas oversulphated chondroitin sulphate from squid skin contained ca 29% disulphated and 35% trisulphated units of those liberated by chondroitinase AC. 2. 2. No detected inhibition of the chondroitinase ABC action was found from the presence of sulphates, whereas the chondroitinase AC action was limited by the oversulphation of the chains. 3. 3. The action of both chondroitinases ABC and AC was significantly decreased by the presence of neutral monosaccharide branches. 4. 4. Chondroitinase ABC action is particularly inhibited by the presence of glucose branches, whereas chondroitinase AC action is limited by galactose branches.
