Abstract

This paper deals with the dynamics of sliver separation into flocks, little flocks, and individual fibers during the OE spinning process. A functional dependence is deter mined for the opening force exerted on a clamped sliver tuft. The influence of the opening force on fiber geometry simulated with a double helix model is established. Fiber coiling is simulated with a primary helix and fiber crimping with a secondary helix. The decoiling and decrimping forces and the degrees of fiber extendedness as a function of the tensile force during gradual loading are measured for cotton, regenerated cellulose-viscose, and cotton-type PAN and PES fibers. The function of the opening roller rotation speed and the degrees of fiber extendedness during the OE spinning process are established.
