Abstract

This paper deals with environmental factors other than photoperiod, which can influence reproduction. Heat stress has a profound effect on fertility in both sexes: this is manifest predominantly at the level of gametogenesis, fertilisation and early embryonic life. Reproduction is particularly sensitive to alterations in nutrition with effects due to the quantity and quality of feed. The environment in which farm animals exist is also characterised by husbandry routines and these factors are also discussed.
