Abstract

1. One of the reasons for the positive effect which nitrogen additions have on the intercrystalline corrosion resistance of low-carbon steel is the decrease in relative free energy of the grain boundaries and consequent decrease in the rate of carbide formation at the grain boundaries. 2. Low-carbon austenitic steel of 03Kh19AG3N10 type alloyed with 0.2–0.25% N possesses satisfactory mechanical and corrosion resistance properties.
