Abstract

This paper deals with the influence of nitrogen ion implantation on the values of the friction coefficient and wear of tool steel. The friction coefficient and wear of samples were found to decrease with the dose increase of nitrogen ions implanted at 60keV. Improvement of tribological properties was obtained with the energy increase to 120keV with nitrogen ions introduced into the sample. Polyenergetic implantation was used for one sample so as to obtain an even concentration of nitrogen atoms in the whole modified layer and this gave the best tribological results.
