Abstract

The bottom sediments of some lakes in northeast Estonia with different hydrological regimes and states of trophicity were investigated. Based on geochemical and paleontological data, relations were compiled between the intensity of circulation of biogeochemical matter and the main natural influences on the lake during the Holocene. Chemical compounds and environmental conditions enable one to evaluate the extent of changes caused by manmade processes.
