Abstract

Objective To investigate the influence of nasal cavity ventilation expansion technique on obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).Methods Nasal cavity expansion surgery was performed in 52 OSAHS patients with rhinostegnosis.Polysomnography (PSG) testing and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) evaluation were planned before and after surgery. Results Contrast pro-to postoperation, apnea and hypopnea index (AHI) was 37.52± 18.00 versus 38.12± 16.44(P =0.15),total recording time (453.7 ± 32.0) min versus (460.7 ± 41.8) min (P =0.147),total sleep time (368.5± 35.1) min versus (360.2±46.1) min (P =0.206),arousal index (35.2± 16.1) events/h versus (14.7±11.0) events/h,(P <0.001),time in stage 1 NREM was (42.1±19.1) min versus (21.7± 18.1) min,(P =0.028),time in stage 2 NREM was (255.0±30.5) min versus (186.1±46.2)min(P =0.031),time in stage 3-4 NREM was (21.0±16.9) min versus (36.1±24.2) min (P =0.039),time in REM sleep was (56.9±25.5) min versus (51.5±31.5) min (P =0.071),lowest oxygen saturation (LSaO2) was (77.78 ± 8.13) % versus (79.74 ± 7.11) % (P =0.063),body mass index (BMI) was (27.68 ± 3.01) kg/m2 versus (27.96 ± 3.52) kg/m2 (P =0.43).These differences weren't statistics significance.ESS score decreased after surgery, and had statistics significance (P =0.015).Conclusions The results suggest that single nasal cavity expansion surgery can't improve objective index, such as AHI,LSaO2 and BMI,but it is useful for improving sleep quality and daytime sleepiness in OSAHS with rhinostegnosis.
