Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the nature of the effect of detonation nanodiamonds (DND) on composite rocket fuels. Various types of nanodiamonds and diamond micropowder were investigated, the effect of each of them was analyzed. The novelty of this study was the method of introducing nanodiamonds into the fuel composition - in the form of pasties with dimethylformamide; DND was preliminarily kept at 430 °C for 2 h in air and argon. The use of nanodiamonds in the composition of the fuel-binder led to an increase in the combustion rate of the fuel composition by ∼23% and a decrease in the temperature of the combustion products of the composite rocket fuel by ∼ 150 °C. Both factors have a beneficial effect on the operation of the propulsion system and increase its efficiency.
