Abstract

Thermal analysis of the composite amorphous/nanocrystalline Fe72Ni8Si10B10 alloy, in correlation with the XRD analysis of its individual sides, shows that the changes in phase composition induced by thermal treatment are followed by changes in microstructural parameters of the already present or newly formed phases in the alloy. These changes influence the corrosion behavior of the alloy in 0.5 M NaOH, NaCl and HCl solutions, according to the potentiodynamic polarization and EIS measurements. Beside the phase composition, the microstructure including crystal orientation and the state of the alloy surface is observed to have a significant role in the overall corrosion behavior.
