Abstract

To investigate the influence of uncertainties of the material properties and the geometric characteristics on the output of a sensor based on active materials, the least angle regression (LAR) method has been applied. The approximation function obtained from LAR is used to carry out a global sensitivity analysis by calculating the Sobol indices. With the proposed method, the most influential parameters can be determined. In this paper, we focus on a magneto-electric sensor based on magnetostrictive and piezoelectric composite materials are the object of the sensitivity analysis. The response of the sensor depends on the operating frequency that is usually fixed a priori. The global sensitivity analysis will be carried out at different operating frequencies, and the results are compared. The influence of the rough surface of the sensor on the output is also investigated.
