Abstract

The magnetic transition with a temperature hysteresis of about 7K was observed in the martensitic phase of Ni51.9Mn27Ga211. The measurements of AC magnetic susceptibility in constant magnetic fields up to 570kA/m have proved its magnetic origin. The transport and caloric measurements were used to gain better understanding of the nature of this phenomenon. The variation of the martensite lattice parameters with temperature is suggested to account for the hysteresis of the magnetic transition.
