Abstract

In this article, influence of magnetic saturation upon steady-state and transient performance of a voltage-fed induction motor is studied using time stepping finite element method (TSFEM). In the design and fault diagnosis, precise computation and analysis of signals and variables are necessary. On the other hand, many analytical and lumped parameters based model methods ignore the magnetic saturation. The results of TSFEM application are compared with those obtained by the winding function method, lumped parameters model based methods and experiments. These comparisons show a very good agreement between the TSFEM application and test results, while there are large differences between the results of applications of the other methods and the test results.
